FIRST YEAR ENGLISH PREPARATION PROGRAM

The First Year English Preparation Program is structured to fully prepare students entering university or college for the workload they will be expected to undertake
upon enrolling in a first year English course. The topics and subjects dealt with in this program essentially coincide with those introduced by most professors at
the post secondary level. Some areas include the following:

a) A step-by-step critical analyzing (both literary and psychological) of various forms of advertisements;

b) Learning how to analyze poetry in a manner that appeals to professors/markers;

c) Learning how to comprehend short stories, and how to extract their central meanings so as to be able to write essays about them in a clear and insightful fashion;

d) Learning techniques on how to decipher and examine novels and drama on which the student must then write essays: and so on.

First year English can be and is often anxiety-provoking and scary for many students who enroll in it without being aware of what to expect. This course is professionally designed to alleviate obvious concerns and worries; its aim is to teach students what they need to know so as to increase their chances for success.
